Mommin' in the Real World's 2019 Holiday Gift Guide

The holiday season is here!

I love to find or create the ideal gift for each of my family and friends, but it is not always so easy! (I’m looking at you, Dad…)

If you’re anything like me, it is likely you are searching for the perfect gift for at least one person on your shopping list. And, if you’re like me, you’re picky about getting something of good quality and not too expensive.

I wouldn’t recommend any of the products below if they weren’t something I would buy for myself or for someone I love.

I have been collecting ideas for a couple of months and I’m excited to share what I’ve found with you!

Cubby the Curious Bear

$77.00

I recently reviewed Cubby the Curious Bear, which my family had received as a gift from Hasbro (read here). Cubby is a sweet and cuddly interactive plush toy with over 100 combinations of movements and sounds. My children absolutely adore Cubby and have not tired of playing with him. Together they play tea parties, doctor, school, and even sleep with him at naps and at bedtime.

Where’s Waldo? Double Trouble at the Museum: The Ultimate Spot-the-Difference Book

$16.39

Where’s Waldo books have always been a favorite of mine. I loved to not only search for Waldo but also to look at all the silly little details that are always hidden in the photos.

So when I received a copy of Where’s Waldo? Double Trouble at the Museum: The Ultimate Spot-the-Difference Book from Candlewick it did not disappoint. I was eager to share Where’s Waldo with my daughter and we have had so many hours of fun not only finding Waldo, Walda, and the other characters, but also trying to spot the differences in the side-by-side pages. This book is sure to be a hit with both kids and adults.

Women of NASA LEGO Set

The Women of NASA LEGO set is perfect for the science-minded girl. It contains four figurines featuring Nancy Grace Roman, Margaret Hamilton, Sally Ride and Mae Jemison and blocks to build a display of their areas of expertise. I think this is one of the coolest LEGO sets of all time and it has one of my all-time heroes, Sally Ride. I’m not ashamed to say that I want this- hint, hint!

Elecstars Projector Night Lamp

Who doesn’t love to sleep under the stars? The Elecstars LED lamp projects a color-changing rotating galaxy of stars on the ceiling. It comes with a remote control to easily change the settings and a programmable sleep timer.

Tomons Magnetic Blocks Building Set

One of my friends’ children has these colorful magnetic blocks by Tomons. My kids were fascinated and spent our entire visit playing with them, building towers, castles, houses, all kinds of things. They give so many more options for play, expressing creativity, and constructing anything a kid could imagine than regular blocks do.

SainSmart Jr. Remote Control Dinosaur

I don’t know any kid that doesn’t like dinosaurs (adults too!) and what could be better than a dinosaur toy? A remote control walking dinosaur toy! This dinosaur by SainSmart Jr. walks, roars, makes walking sounds, turns its head, and has light-up eyes, making it the coolest dinosaur toy I’ve seen. Imagine the hours of fun playing inside and out with this triceratops!

Babies/Toddlers

Silikong Suction Plate

How many times has your little one picked up their plate of spaghetti and dumped it on their head? What about picking up their bowl and throwing it on the dining table, knocking over someone’s drink? Oh, how I wish I would have found these plates sooner! Using a suction base, the Silikong suction plate will stick to almost any surface, making the days of thrown plates in the past. Made of BPA-free food-grade silicone, they are dishwasher, microwave, and oven-safe. I love that they can be used in both the microwave and the dishwasher!

GRABEASE First Self Feed Baby Utensils

Besides being super cute, these baby utensils by GRABEASE are such a fabulous idea. Made with a choke protection shield, they help keep a child learning to eat by themselves safe and are easy for little hands to hold and maneuver.

Hatch Baby Rest

My sister gave me a Hatch Baby Rest sound machine as a gift when my son was born. It has been a lifesaver! I really can’t say enough good things about this product. It is a nightlight, sound machine, and has a time-to-rise setting all in one. It can be set to whatever sound and color combinations you like (we use white noise and a soft yellow glow) and can be programmed using the Hatch Baby Rest smartphone app to automatically turn on and off at preferred times and you can adjust settings as needed remotely. It is relatively small in size but it does its job well and is great for traveling.

Brew Share Enjoy Homebrew Starter Kit

My husband and brother-in-law share a love of craft beer. A few years ago my sister and I decided to buy them both home brewing kits so that they could experiment with brewing their own beer.

The kits we bought at the time were nowhere near as comprehensive as these homebrew starter kits from Northern Brewer. The starter kits include the ingredients for 4 different types of beer and the equipment needed to create your own brew.

Sit back and wait for your Wife of the Year award.

Dad

The Original Dutch Oven Kits Fart Blanket

I gave my brother-in-law a Dutch Oven Kits fart blanket for his birthday in June and it turned out to be hands down the best gift I have ever found for him. Reading the fart “recipe card” made him laugh until he cried- along with several of the guests in the room too- and he loves the blanket. Read my review of Dutch Oven Kits’ awesome fart blanket here.

At 60’x80′, the microfiber fleece throw is perfect for cuddling and big enough to use on the bed. As you can see, a little stinker has taken my blanket; it is so soft that everyone in the house tries to steal it! It’s a fun but useful gift, any guy (or gal) would love.

RegeMoudal Emergency Radio

My friend Ruth is a little bit obsessed with watching tornado chasing videos, reading books about past tornadoes, and loves the science behind the weather. Rightly so, as we live in Tornado Alley and she currently resides in an apartment without a tornado shelter. She has a standing invitation to come over to my house and hang out in the basement during bad weather and we’ve had several stormy evenings spent together. Ruth recently bought this weather radio by RegeMoudal and brought it to work to show me.

Not only does it play AM, FM, and NOAA weather radio, it can be powered by batteries, USB, solar power, and hand crank. It can be used to power your devices via USB and also has a flashlight function. If my power was out in a storm, I would want to have an emergency radio like this one on hand. Don’t tell my husband, but I think this is what he’s getting from me for Christmas.

Buffway Slim Leather Wallet

My dad usually carries his wallet in the shirt pocket of his work uniform or in the front pocket of his pants on his day off. This slim and light leather wallet by Buffway would work perfectly for his uniform pocket. With RFID blocking technology you can feel safe knowing no one will access your cards using electronic signals.

Teenage Sister

Scrunchies

Apparently hair scrunchies are in again! I use one at night to keep my hair out of my face, but I see girls wearing them all the time. It takes me back to middle school. This 65 piece set from Cehomi will ensure your sis has a scrunchie to match every outfit and some to spare.

Lighted Vanity Mirror

Way better than my mom’s old 1970s lighted vanity mirror that I used in high school- BESTOPE’s incredible tri-fold mirror has 21 LED lights controlled by a touch screen, two and three times magnification, plus it rotates and can be powered via AAA battery or USB.

YIVIEW Sleep Mask

Photo credit: Amazon $9.99 (3 pack)

I love having my bedroom dark to sleep but my husband does not, so I will often use a sleep mask. I also use a sleep mask when I have a migraine. I’ve tried many different kinds but most are cheaply constructed and fall apart or don’t fit my face and work to keep the light out. These sleep masks by Yiview have features that many sleep masks do not.

They are made from a soft and breathable sponge fabric with an adjustable strap. The mask is contoured with a concave molded cup that does not press on your eyes.

The Aiper Robotic Vacuum Cleaner would completely change my life. This futuristic-looking self-charging vacuum is only 2.6 inches high, so it can get into tight spaces that similar machines can’t. Photo credit: Amazon $6.99

My husband’s grandmother used to have a nondescript piece of paper that she would write all her usernames and passwords on for her e-mail, her banking information, her investment information, and everything else. When it was time to help her with something on the computer it was difficult to locate the piece of paper and to know if it was up-to-date or not. I wish she would have had one of these! Help Grandma and Grandpa keep all of their usernames and passwords together in one place with a password book.

Hobby Home Accessories Personalized Family Christmas Tree Ornament

Each year since my husband and I married, we’ve received a personalized Christmas tree ornament from my parents. It has been fun to have a new ornament each year to add to our tree. First, we received one with just a man and woman, our first names, family name, and the year we married. Each year since the ornament has always been different and reflects our little family. The kids love to pick out the ones that have their names on them. It has been a lovely tradition and someday we’ll be able to hand them down to our children for their family trees.
